– Cheryl Gallant, Conservative Member of Parliament, Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke, is pleased to confirm funding for the traditional POW WOW celebrating the local arts and culture of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan.

“Congratulations to the many volunteers and all their hard work that goes into this celebration,” stated Cheryl Gallant, MP. “I understand this is the 24th annual edition for the annual POW WOW. That is a real accomplishment.  This is one of the popular events in the local summer calendar and draws visitors to our region over a wide area. I know I look forward to going out to Golden Lake and I encourage all local residents, particularly if you have never been, to make a point of attending this years pow wow.”

The Algonquins of Pikwakanagan has received funding of $12,000 to help present its traditional POW WOW, which will take place from August 21st to 22nd, 2010.

The Government of Canada created the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program in September 2007. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program will benefit many community events and celebrations throughout Canada this year.
