Ottawa, Ontario… Cheryl Gallant, MP Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke, is calling on opposition MPs to get to work and do the job they were elected to do. The veteran Ontario MP took the opportunity to rise in Parliament to admonish MPs to get to work.
“I ran for Parliament to make a positive difference in people’s lives. My constituents tell me they are sick and tired of all the negativity that has been going on in politics lately. Minority government, particularly where you have opposition MPs running off in all directions because there is no discipline in their caucus and no leadership in their party, is bad for Canadians,” observed Cheryl Gallant, MP. “Anyone who has ever played sports knows that it is teamwork that produces Stanley Cups and World Soccer championships. It is no different in politics.”
“Add a group of separatists from Quebec whose only reason to exist is to break-up our great country, I can appreciate why my constituents share my frustration with a group in Ottawa whose actions only benefit those who want to make Canada ungovernable.”

Mrs. Cheryl Gallant (Renfrew—Nipissing—Pembroke, Conservative): Mr. Speaker, the past year has been a difficult one for many Canadians. That is why our government has remained focused on the economy, keeping our communities safe and strengthening Canada's voice on the world stage.
While we have been working on important legislation that Canadians want and expect from their government, the opposition has been playing political games by turning committees into kangaroo courts and fuelling tabloid politics.
Our Conservative government has introduced over 40 bills this session. Thanks to the opposition's delay and obstruction, not one new government bill has passed Parliament to become law. Our government is calling on the opposition to immediately put aside the partisan rhetoric and get to work on our important bills before this session ends.
Canadians expect results on priorities that are important to them. It is time for the opposition to stop interfering, get serious and start working.
“Being in government is all about making tough decisions with the big picture in mind. The long-range future prosperity of the country must be your goal. It is always easy to criticize, much harder to actually be part of the solution,” stated MP Gallant. “Canada needs a majority Conservative government now!”
