MP Gallant Supports Program for the Disabled
November 16, 2007
Ottawa, Ontario - Cheryl Gallant, MP, Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke, is pleased to make a call for proposals from local non-profit organizations for projects that help people with disabilities be full participants in society. The deadline for applications is November 28th, 2007.

“I am fully committed to assisting residents with disabilities to be able to enjoy an active and meaningful lifestyle, as is the new Conservative government,” stated MP Gallant.

Human Resources and Social Development Canada's mission, on behalf of the new Conservative government, is to build a stronger and more competitive Canada, to support Canadians in making choices that help them live productive and rewarding lives, and to improve Canadians' quality of life.

“The people of the Ottawa valley have a tremendous reputation of being generous to their neighbours. Organizations like Community Living, Upper Ottawa Valley, which will be celebrating 50 years of community service in 2008, is just one of the reasons we have this reputation,” said Cheryl Gallant, MP.

The Social Development Partnerships Program- Disability Component (SDPP-D) seeks to increase the effectiveness of the not-for-profit sector in meeting the social development needs and aspirations of persons with disabilities and improve the quality and responsiveness of the Government of Canada’s social policies and programs.

Grants and contributions are used by the SDPP-D to support activities that respond to the evolving needs of people with disabilities. Whether it is improving services, promoting accessibility or increasing understanding of the situation of people with disabilities, the funding allows the federal government to support not-for-profit organizations’ efforts that identify and test best practices and innovative tools; create knowledge and information on trends and concerns affecting Canadians; foster networks; improve coherence and national coverage of issues while responding to local needs and conditions for program and service improvements; and improve the quality and responsiveness of the Government’s social policies and programs.

The SDPP-D provides financial support to well-planned, results-oriented projects designed to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities.

“I am pleased to make this announcement on behalf of our government in Ottawa. For further information I encourage interested groups to contact my office,” concluded MP Cheryl Gallant.
