Cheryl Gallant, M.P. for Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke is pleased to confirm the 2008 Canada Day poster challenge has launched with all young Canadians in the Riding and across the country invited to take part. “The Poster challenge is a great chance for young Canadians in the Riding and across our great country to illustrate why Canada is so special to them”, explained Gallant.

Established in 1987, the Canada Day Poster Challenge is one of the most popular programs of the Department of Heritage. Each year thousands of young people take part with more than 15000 involved in 2007.

The 2008 poster theme of “My Canada Today” encourages participants to illustrate the people, places and events that have shaped Canada. All young Canadians between five and 18 years of age are invited to participate in the Challenge and will have until February 28, 2008 to submit their artwork to the Celebrate Canada Committee in their province.

The13 territorial and provincial finalists selected will each win a three day trip to Ottawa as the special guests of the Minister of Canadian Heritage and will join thousands of other Canadians for the Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill where the National winner’s artwork will be showcased as the official 2008 Canada Day poster and used for all Canada Day activities across the country.

“The 2008 Canada Day Poster Challenge is a wonderful opportunity for young people all over the Riding to demonstrate their pride in being Canadian. Youth can take on the Challenge individually or talk with a teacher about a class project. I encourage all young people to get involved and show what our great country means to them”, stated Gallant.
